This magazine front cover is very different from my other ideas. The main reason it looks so different is because it is on a white background instead of black, this means it has a whole different aura about the cover. The whole magazine cover follows the rule of visual heiarchy so you see everything when you glance at the cover.

The masthead is in the top left and in a dark grey colour which stands out off the white background and links with the picture with the bands clothes. The splash includes the bands name in a large font in a faded red to stand out from the page and to link in with the faded picture. The red also links in with the picture as all of the colours are faded and the same colour red is hinted on the picture on the man on the rights collar.

This cover uses the layout idea 4, but without the banner. this is a very simple front cover with just one main image, the masthead at the top and the article at the bottom.
The masthead is Bright red to reflect the roses of the guns n' roses emblem, and a hint of green around the edges to also reflect the roses of the bands emblem. the rest of the text is jsut white so it is easy to see and read.

The main image has had no alterations apart from using a fade tool at the top to merge it in with the Masthead.

This magazine cover is very simple and does need altering to make it look more effective but for a first draft i think it is quite good.

This mock up magazine cover uses my first layout idea but with slight alterations. the main image uses a fade effect at the bottom of the image to murge in with the lower half of the page. the title is not very easy to see and this will be one of the things i would change about this magazine cover. There is a splash in the centre of the magazine with two smaller images of ' lost legends' , both images using the circular fade tool which adds the effect of death.

all of the text is either red or white to keep it simple and it also links in with the pictures.

This is another mock up testing out the different layout ideas. This mock up uses the fourth layout idea using a banner underneath the title.

i have editied the main image of slashto look like there is a light coming down on him to emphysize his brilliance.

this is one of my mock up magazine covers. it uses my third layout idea.
this magazine cover is very simple with a main image on a black background. the image has been modified with a fade on the image of bucket head and embossed the edges of the fade so it looks slighty 3D. the banner images have also been faded so they link with the background better.

layout 4

this layout idea is a simple structure modified with a horizontal banner underneath the title.

layout 3

this is my thrid layout idea including a verticle banner of pictures on the right hand side of the page.

this is my second idea for a layout which is a bit more complex with the magazine title in the middle instead of at the top.

this is the first of my layout ideas. it is very simple but if done correctly very effective.

this is my preliminary task. i have put the title on the top of the page and central so it looks formal. i have put a stripe on the title so it doesnt look formal considering it is a school magazine.

i have not altered the picture at all as i think it is a good picture as it is because it shows that it is a fun school and it relates to the title. This image is also effective as it is on a very plain background, but has a slight change of light so it is not too boring.

This double page spread uses a large image of the sex pistols that takes up the hole left side like the B.I.G. spread, but it also overlaps onto the next page to link the pages together. their is no particular colour scheme to the spread, but are all bright colours. There are also 5 other smaller pictures on the right page which are snapshots of the band which helps ad a personal aproach like the dizze rascal spread i looked at.
The title of the article is randomly placed on the right page not overlapping any of the images to show what is important on the page. The title is also randomly coloured which attracts the eye to the page and uses a cartoon gun to represent the band. The rest of the text is yellow and sticks to the same font so it is easy to read, it is also on a plain black background which also helps it to stand out.
over all i think this double page spread has a very good layout making you feel apart of the band and the random colour scheme represents the band and its reputation.
This double page spread uses one large image of B.I.G. and uses the other half for text. this allows lots of space for text. The image is of B.I.G live on stage so it is not a posed picture.

The title is is very large located on the left hand side of the page using a pun to relate to the article and picture. The colour of the title is bright orange to help it stand out to the reader and uses the colour orange again around the pug in the bottom left corner. The rest of the text uses plain black on white back ground to make the text easy to read and the white back ground also helps the title to stand out.

This double page spread is quite simple as it has a simple layout and has a simple orange black and white colour scheme and could be better to represent the article but overall uses the simplistic layout and colour scheme well.

double page

this double page spread uses a huge main image of a pair of headphones which takes up all of the page this attracts the reader to the page and in a way makes you wonder what the article is about. The topic of this article is revealed with two smaller pictures of dizze rascal randomly placed like snapshots to make it look like a photo album, which adds a personal approach to the page spread. the colour scheme of the images are simple being gray white and a kind of bricky colour which helps keep the page simple and homely.

The title is very small on the right side of the page above the article which leaves a lot of space on the rest of the page for images. all of the text is kept black and the fonts are kept really simplistic.

this double page spread is very very simple and uses very simple skills but uses them in a clever way to make it feel like a personal and homely article using one font as if its handwriting and using snapshots to make it look like a photo album.
